My main setup is to have two terminals open with my main on a large widescreen monitor with multiple tmux splits. Sharing this to coworkers who might be looking at a small laptop screen is chaotic, especially if I have code, logs, OpenCode, scratch panes open, etc. I have to take time to resize the code panel, squishing all the other ones.
I fixed this with tmux-power-zoom: I press <M-Z> to move the current pane into its own clean window, allowing others to focus on the pane I want them to. Toggle again and the pane goes back to its original spot:
# assuming you're using a plugin manager, the plugin repo has instructions if you're not
set -g @plugin 'tmux-plugins/tpm'
# default trigger is `<prefix> + Z` but I prefer a single chord to press, skipping the prefix
set -g @power_zoom_trigger 'M-Z'
set -g @power_zoom_without_prefix 1
set -g @plugin 'jaclu/tmux-power-zoom'tmux does have built-in zoom (resize-pane -Z, default <prefix> + z) which is faster, but I prefer the way the plugin moves it to a new window; leaving the old window and panes available is a clear visual marker of what has happened. (Perhaps there's some configs out there to add visual cues to the default that'd make it more appealing, but in the meantime I'm happy with this setup.)
